Trail System
With 38,000 acres of land, much of which is open for public access, trail systems are increasing in popularity at the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) reservoirs.
The MWCD lakes offer numerous self-contained loop trails for visitors. In addition, Tappan Lake is the headquarters for the Buckeye Trail, a multiple-use trail system that touches every corner of the state and is more than 1,440 miles long.
Trail supporters routinely camp at the Buckeye Trail headquarters building (pictured at right) at a former farm property near Tappan Lake, and spend days, weekends and weeks on trail maintenance activities.
The MWCD also has cooperated with the Ohio Horseman's Council, which is developing a horse camp and trail system in the Pleasant Hill Lake region.
